About the ownerS

LISA HERRERA

I grew up playing multiples sports, but in high school I found my love for shot put,  javelin and discus. I started weight training in high school to keep my strength and explosiveness for the throwing sports.

I started competing in powerlifting in 2010 after I had become a personal trainer and wanted to invest myself further into my passion of lifting weights. I started competing in the WABDL Federation and quickly set State, National and World bench press records for my age and weight class in 2011 and 2012.

In 2012 I switched over to competing in USPA powerlifting meets and got certified as a state referee. I am currently a Level 2 National referee in the WRPF and referee 1-2  meets a year as a way to give back to the sport I love. My last meet was in May of 2023 where I totaled 1290 Lbs. and I am now ranked #11 in the world in my age and weight class!

I built Northwest Barbell while working a full-time job, spending weekends and evening putting equipment together and making the gym a special place. It has always been a dream of mine to own a gym that met all my training needs and was my home away from home.

I now have the pleasure of sharing my love of the sport and competing alongside the members of my own gym! Watch out for Team Northwest Barbell's latest meets on our social media pages.

I hope that Northwest Barbell can provide a safe and inspiring environment for you to reach your full potential and achieve your personal goals.

KEN ROBERTS

I started my academic and athletic career playing baseball, football as well as wrestling as a young man. I excelled in wrestling and became one of the most dominant wrestlers in the NPSL and Metro. I was a state champion in the 168 and 178 weight classes at O’Dea High School in Seattle, WA. My senior year I scored a record 20 touch downs as a full back which has since been beaten. I continued my sports career through college at University of Idaho.

After college, I co-owned Pro Fitness Center in South Seattle where I excelled in coaching and weight training as well as the day-to-day operations of managing and owning a health club.

At this point, my lifestyle and people I associated with took me down the wrong path, leading to some bad decisions. After finding a way to start life over again, I began to pursue education and my passion for structural steel. I became and iron worker and master fabricator while simultaneously continuing my education until becoming a Structural Steel Engineer who specializes in seismic and connections.

After finding my way back to the gym and relocating to Skagit County in 2012, I spent the next years dedicated to training hard and surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who train hard and understand the dedication it takes to be the biggest and best. In 2019 I had the opportunity to meet Lisa and we quickly became best of friends and realized we shared the same life goals and dreams.
